The Ministry of Defence has published a ten-year breakdown of training activity at the Land Regional Hub Germany, outlining how many field training exercises have taken place at the site each year.
The figures were released in response to a written parliamentary question from James Cartlidge MP, who asked how many exercises had been conducted at the hub in each of the last ten financial years. In his reply, Defence Minister Al Carns clarified that exercises are recorded by calendar year rather than financial year.
According to the data provided, 32 field training exercises were held at the Land Regional Hub Germany in 2016. This fell to 26 in 2017 and 22 in 2018. In 2019, the total dropped to 11 exercises. The lowest figure in the ten-year period came in 2020, when five exercises were recorded. Activity increased to eight exercises in 2021, before rising again to 11 in 2022 and 12 in 2023.
In 2024, the number of exercises climbed to 16, and in 2025 the total reached 23. This represents the highest annual figure since 2017, though still below the 2016 peak. Overall, the data shows a decline in exercise numbers between 2016 and 2020, followed by a gradual and sustained increase through to 2025. The Land Regional Hub Germany continues to host a regular programme of British field training exercises, with more than four times as many exercises conducted in 2025 as in 2020.
