The UK is seeking to expand defence and industrial cooperation with Norway as both countries respond to security pressures in the High North and NATO’s northern flank, according to Defence Minister Luke Pollard.
Speaking during a visit to Oslo, Pollard said discussions with Norwegian counterparts focused on building on existing military cooperation, noting that UK and Norwegian forces already “train together” and operate jointly in deterrence efforts in the region.
He said the talks also centred on strengthening industrial links alongside military collaboration, describing a push to deepen cooperation in a way that supports “good, well paid jobs back home in the UK” while also contributing to employment in Norway.
The visit reflects a broader push on closer alignment between NATO allies in northern Europe, particularly as activity in the High North increases and the region’s strategic importance grows.
Pollard added that the UK and Norway remain key partners in supporting Ukraine, with cooperation spanning both operational and industrial areas as part of a wider allied response to the conflict.
I’m in Norway to deepen our defence relationship. Some really good progress today.
With continuing Russian threats to NATO’s northern flank and the high north, the UK and Norway are training together, buying together and working more closely together. 🇬🇧🇳🇴 pic.twitter.com/Tk1kjfwy8w
