Rolls-Royce is investing GBP 19.3 million in its Advanced Blade Casting Facility in Rotherham after securing a GBP 2 million grant from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, the company said.
The combined £21.3 million package will expand capability and productivity at the site, with new specialist machinery expected to double output by 2030, according to the company.
The Rotherham facility produces advanced turbine blades for Rolls-Royce civil aero engines, including components for the Trent XWB-84, which powers the Airbus A350-900, and the Trent 1000 XE used on the Boeing 787. These high-pressure turbine blades operate under extreme conditions, with each generating power comparable to a Formula 1 car.
“We’re grateful to South Yorkshire’s Mayor for his support. It’s a clear example of how regional government can generate confidence for private sector investment,” said Nigel Bird, Executive Vice President for Turbine Systems at Rolls-Royce, adding that the investment reflects confidence in both the workforce and the region’s manufacturing capability.
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said the funding would help retain advanced manufacturing skills locally and support further growth in the sector. “I’m proud that our support will help to unlock growth, keep cutting-edge manufacturing here in South Yorkshire and further strengthen our role at the heart of the UK’s advanced manufacturing industry.”
The facility, which opened in 2015 and employs more than 300 people, forms part of Rolls-Royce’s wider UK manufacturing base and is supported by an international supply chain.

The UK government needs to get the funding to Rolls Royce to roll out the smaller ultra fun engine ASAP. This could generate up to 40,000 jobs. It seems mental that it’s even up for debate for £2-3 billion.
Can’t have too much fun 🙂
You so can…🤣😵💫
