Over 2,000 personnel from both countries participated in Exercise Imjin Warrior 23, working together to improve the partnership between the two militaries.

2023 marks 70 years since the end of the Korean War and 140 years of UK-Korea relations.

The exercise, say the Ministry of Defence, demonstrates the UK’s enduring commitment to enhancing Indo-Pacific security by shifting greater resources to the region.

“The exercise coincided with Baroness Goldie’s ministerial visit to Seoul for the UK-Korea Strategic Defence Dialogue, providing an opportunity to identify new avenues for cooperation.

Ex Imjin Warrior forms part of the UK’s persistent engagement strategy which is outlined in the 2022 ‘Future Soldier’ publication. This strategy aims to have the British Army conduct longer-term deployed unit training, partnered exercises, and provide a regionally forward-based persistent engagement force.”

Good stuff, further interaction with S. Korea would be a good move in terms of our “Indo-Pacific lean” or whatever it is the government are calling it.

Respect to the South Koreans, my dad was in Korea in 51 and they have never forgotten his service, marked with plaques and when he died earlier this year they sent a message of condolence.

My dad also in Korea. Spent 6 months in a US hospital in Tokyo or just outside it. He and his driver hit a mine and both were badly injuried. He never really talked about WW2 or Korea except to say as he recovered and got to enjoy the delights that Japan had to offer and the facilities the yanks had compared to the BA NAAFI he said it was the most enjoyable 6 months of his 27 year career.

A lot off topic, but the Ukrainians carried out a long range missile strike on a Russian ammo dump in the town of Sjedove which is around 30 miles east of Mariupol. Do a search on :””Russian ammunition dump rapidly cooking off this evening in Sjedove, Donetsk Oblast.””

Something tells me that is going to hurt the Russians,

Also they carried out a missile strike on the docks just off the kerch bridge in Crimea and damaged a Karakurt-class Project 22800 missile corvette

Nov 5th I see. Perhaps they were celebrating Guy Fawkes as well, trust the Russkies to go over the top, show offs. Hope they made a mess of that corvette.

Pictures and video of both the strikes and damage around at the moment didn’t seem those air defences worked particularly effectively, as claimed by the Russians certainly wasn’t just debris hitting it, the third missile was a direct hit and the damage seen in a still pic looks so great it might even be a right off, certainly will be for a long, long time to repair if not.

I note from the army website that 120 men from C Coy 1SG participated. Does that mean that 1,880 came from the Sth Korean army?

Why? We cannot even defend our own back yard, let alone Korea. Desperate government attempts to convince themselves that Britain is a ‘major player’ in world affairs. Sad and pathetic.

Because as a small military, we will almost always need to cooperate with others. Plus, helping defend an ally, and one that we sacrificed blood and treasure defending, is always a good thing.

Not that you understand cooperation and having real allies, dear mobnik or wumao.
