L3Harris Technologies has been selected to provide its Integrated Platform Management System for Poland’s new Miecznik-class frigates, in a contract awarded by state-owned shipyard PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, according to the company.
The IPMS will manage ship performance, reliability and safety across the Miecznik frigates, which are based on the Arrowhead 140 ship design by Babcock International and form part of what has been described as the largest contract in Polish shipbuilding history.
L3Harris said the system would optimise situational awareness, operational efficiency and safety for the new warships.
Nino DiCosmo, President of Maritime, Space and Mission Systems at L3Harris, said the Miecznik-class frigates powered by the company’s IPMS represented “the future of maritime defence, providing Poland with superior combat power and a strategic edge in regional waters” and that the solution would strengthen Poland’s defence industrial capabilities while enabling the fleet to “extend operational range and endurance.”
L3Harris said its IPMS incorporated functionalities derived from working with the Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Canadian Navy, and had been delivered to nearly 300 vessels across 28 navies worldwide since its development.
