Lithuanian drone company Granta Autonomy has revealed its new X-WING loitering munition system, designed to combine vertical take-off with fixed-wing endurance, the company stated.
The 12kg system is intended to provide infantry units with a portable, modular precision strike option that does not require specialist launch equipment. According to Granta Autonomy, the X-WING can fly up to 50 km and carries a 4kg hybrid warhead effective against both armoured and soft targets.
The UAV is paired with the firm’s Hornet XR reconnaissance drone, creating what the company describes as a sensor-to-shooter system. The X-WING is equipped with AI-driven autonomy for navigation in contested electronic environments where GPS signals may be jammed or spoofed.
Gediminas Guoba, CEO and founder of Granta Autonomy, said: “The X-WING is a direct result of our battlefield-tested philosophy. We’ve taken the lessons learned from providing thousands of drones to the front lines in Ukraine and used that invaluable experience to create a sister system to our Hornet XR recon drone that is ideally suited for modern combat.”
The company added that the system’s AI-based targeting can help identify camouflaged positions, while its gimbal payloads integrate daylight and thermal imaging sensors. The UAV is also designed for high-rate production, with Granta claiming it could scale to thousands of units per month.
Granta Autonomy, founded in 2015, has been supplying drones to Ukrainian forces since the early stages of Russia’s invasion, with its platforms tested under heavy electronic warfare conditions. The firm has also developed the GA-10FPV-AI quadcopter and its Hornet XR reconnaissance UAV.
