A man has been arrested at Shannon Airport in Ireland after allegedly entering a restricted area and damaging a US military aircraft on Saturday morning.

Irish police, An Garda Síochána, said a man in his 40s was detained shortly before 11am on suspicion of criminal damage. The suspect remains in custody at a station in the Clare/Tipperary division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The aircraft involved was a US Air Force C-130 Hercules transport plane that had been parked on a remote taxiway at the County Clare airport. Footage circulating on social media appeared to show an individual climbing onto the wing of the aircraft and striking it with an object. The individual could be seen moving across the wing near the engines and fuselage.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating: “On Saturday 11 April 2026 an adult male entered an unauthorised area of Shannon airport, Shannon, County Clare.” The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.

In addition to Gardaí, airport police officers, Shannon Airport’s fire and rescue service, and members of the Irish Defence Forces on duty at the airport all responded to the incident. The multi-agency response led to a temporary suspension of airport operations.

A spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group said operations were suspended at approximately 9.50am and resumed at 10.15am, a disruption lasting around 20 minutes. During that time, two departing flights were delayed and one arriving aircraft from Lourdes, France, was placed in a holding pattern before being cleared to land.

The extent of the damage to the C-130 Hercules has not been confirmed.

  1. Obviously not an Iranian agent, most likely a mouth breathing Pro Hamas supporter with nothing better to do.

So, third world immigrant or bored white middle class person? 50/50 at this point

    • Odds are a domestic leftie gobshite, who strangely enough has no problem with the Alumina plant just across the river supplying Russia…

  2. Does highlight the issues around base security posture which is an increasingly serious issue.

There is a need to spend big on proper fences and anti ram wire barriers that the USAF bases in the UK all have.

Obvs you cant put the anti ram barriers at the ends of the runways as the perimeter needs to be soft for overruns. But at least that way the soft perimeters areas that need to heavily monitored are reduced to managable sizes as opposed to the ‘hedge round the back’.

  3. Not the first time this has happened, all the way back to Bush Jrs Iraq invasion, security is constantly playing catch and mouse with the idiots, with the fencing at Shannon only just recently being upgraded after a van ramming and breach.
