A 20-year-old man from Goole has been charged with preparing an act of terrorism following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

Jordan Richardson, of Oliver Close, Goole (born 31 July 2004), is charged with engaging in conduct in preparation of an act of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday, 23 December 2024, and has been remanded in custody. A further hearing is scheduled for 17 January 2025 at the Central Criminal Court.

Richardson was arrested on 19 December 2024 during a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation conducted by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, with support from Humberside Police. A seven-day Warrant of Further Detention was granted on 20 December 2024.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, addressed the public’s concerns, especially in light of the recent tragic events in Germany.

“This case will understandably cause significant concern to local communities, in particular due to the time of year,” Dunkerley said. “However, we want to reassure the public that this individual is believed to have acted alone and there is currently no specific or increased threat to local communities as a result of this case.”

Dunkerley noted that the UK’s threat level remains at Substantial, highlighting that public vigilance is crucial. “History has shown us we can’t afford to be complacent,” he added. “Public vigilance is invaluable in supporting the efforts of Counter Terrorism Policing and its partners.”

Authorities encourage the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. “Every year, thousands of reports from the public help police respond early to potentially suspicious activity,” Dunkerley noted. “If you see or hear something that doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts and report it in confidence at gov.uk/ACT. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
