The Royal Navy has reported successful training exercises involving Merlin helicopters from the Commando Helicopter Force in Scotland.

The units involved, namely the Merlin helicopters from 845 Naval Air Squadron (NAS), played a crucial role in these exercises.

The activities took place at the Tain Air Weapons Range and included operations from RAF Lossiemouth.

These exercises allow the Merlin helicopters, which are integral to the Royal Navy’s Commando Helicopter Force, to practice various air-based tasks, including target engagement and manoeuvring in challenging environments.

The Merlin MK4 features several modifications for use by the Royal Marines. These include a fast roping beam that allows the rapid deployment of Special Forces from the main cabin door.

I don’t see weapons. Is it the door gunner? The marines could do with air weapons. Perhaps drone launched.

Yes, Merlin has the door MG like other helis beyond that nothing. The RM could do with a lot of things! Some serious firepower and new ships for starters.
