Security specialists from across NATO and its partner countries gathered in Bratislava from 17 to 19 September to discuss how to strengthen the secure exchange of classified information, according to the Alliance.
The event brought together representatives from more than 60 countries, alongside officials from international organisations, reflecting the wide network of partners that cooperate with NATO on security and defence issues.
The meeting of the NATO Security Committee was jointly organised by the NATO Office of Security within the Joint Intelligence and Security Division and Slovakia’s National Security Authority. Chaired by Galen J. Nace, Director of the NATO Office of Security and Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Security, the committee serves as the North Atlantic Council’s principal advisory body on security matters.
Discussions in Bratislava focused on enhancing cooperation between Allies and partners in the protection of classified information, a critical issue as NATO increasingly works with non-member states on shared challenges ranging from cyber defence to counter-terrorism. Delegates shared national experiences, addressed common security challenges, and explored ways to reinforce the frameworks that underpin secure communication and information exchange across the Euro-Atlantic area.
Nace underlined the importance of the work, stating: “Partnerships make the Alliance stronger. We are committed to working with our partners to promote the best security practices to protect our people, information, systems and facilities. This meeting allowed us to deepen our cooperation and reinforce the frameworks that enable secure and timely information exchange in support of NATO’s and our partners’ shared objectives.”
