Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group Two (SNMCMG2) visited the Port of La Goulette last week.

NATO say that the visit was designed to support military dialogue and cooperation between NATO and Tunisia, in particular relating to the counter-terrorism and maritime security operations.

SNMCMG2 hosted a Force Reception onboard the Flagship, FGS Rhein, where military and government officials from Tunisia were able to discuss matters of security and partnership with Ambassadors and officers from many Allied and Partner nations.

Commander Maginsky stated:

“It is always a pleasure for NATO ships to visit Tunisia and to be able to foster mutual understanding in important matters of security and stability and to be able to work together with Tunisian Navy.”

During the port visit, the Commanding Officers to the SNMCMG2 ships conducted a meeting with the Commanding Officer of the Tunisian Fast Patrol Boat Himilco (pictured), an Albatros Class Fast Patrol Boat, to plan a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) which took place when the force departed La Goulette.

SNMCMG 1 is part of the enhanced high readiness NATO Reaction Force and provides a crucial element to NATO’s capabilities. When not activated by NATO, SNMCMG1 takes part in different multinational exercises and trains with NATO members and partners.
