Northrop Grumman has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lithuanian Ministries of Defence and Finance to expand co-production of medium-caliber ammunition in partnership with Nammo, according to a press release.

The agreement, signed during the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum in The Hague, formalises a trilateral initiative aimed at strengthening local defence manufacturing in Lithuania, supporting NATO supply chains, and accelerating ammunition delivery for both national forces and allied partners.

Lithuania’s Minister of Defence Dovilė Šakalienė described the MOU as “essential for the development of the national division by 2030 and for strengthening the capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.” She added, “It will enhance national strategic autonomy in defense and deepen partnerships with NATO allies the United States and Norway.”

The project will involve collaboration with Nammo and Lithuania’s Giraitės Ginkluotės Gamykla (Giraitė Armaments Plant), providing additional industrial capacity to meet the demands of regional defence.

Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius said the agreement would “significantly contribute to strengthening of the national defense industry and security not only in Lithuania, but also in the entire region, including Ukraine.”

Vice Minister of Defence Loreta Maskaliovienė added that the move “is a long-term investment in national and regional security that will yield results today and in the future.”

Steve O’Bryan, Northrop Grumman’s corporate vice president for global business development, said the collaboration “expedites delivery of a critical defense need and delivers sustained industrial benefits to the United States and Lithuania.”

Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzæg welcomed the agreement, stating, “Together with Lithuania and Northrop Grumman, we will work to strengthen and expand the industrial base and supply allied defense.”
