Russia threatens West over Ukraine assistance – again
Vladimir Putin & Vyacheslav Volodin

Russia, a country unable to defeat a much smaller and less heavily armed neighbour on its border, has once again inexplicably threatened the worlds leading military alliance over help given to Ukraine.

On Sunday, Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, stated that further deliveries of armaments to Ukraine by Western allies will result in retaliation with more advanced weaponry.

Mr. Volodin expressed concern over the continued military support provided by Europe and the US to the government in Kyiv, which is striving to regain control over territory lost during the Russian incursion. The Chairman’s statement, delivered via Telegram, hinted at the potential use of nuclear weapons and warned of a global catastrophe.

“Arguments that the nuclear powers have not previously used weapons of mass destruction in local conflicts are untenable. This is because these states have not faced a situation in which the security of their citizens and the territorial integrity of their countries were threatened.”

This is not an isolated instance of high-ranking Russian politicians threatening the use of nuclear weapons. In the past 11 months since the onset of the conflict, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has repeatedly raised the possibility of nuclear escalation.

What’s the issue this time?

With the backing of Western allies, Ukraine is making efforts to regain control over the territory illegally annexed by Russia in recent months. This is not a matter of attempting to seize Russian land, as stated by Mr. Volodin.

Contrary to Mr. Volodin’s assertion, Russia’s actions have not been limited to military targets. According to a high-ranking Ukrainian official, over 9,000 Ukrainian civilians have lost their lives since the invasion by Russia 11 months ago.

The United Nations has officially recorded over 7,000 civilian fatalities in Ukraine, though it acknowledges that the actual number is likely to be higher.

Last week, a strike on a Ukrainian apartment building, the deadliest attack on civilians in several months, claimed the lives of numerous individuals. Additionally, ongoing fighting near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has raised concerns about the possibility of a catastrophic meltdown.

Judging from the picture I’m not sure whether Putin is actually there. His mind at least is obviously somewhere a long, long way away. Due west and turn south?💂

Russia is at war in Europe! The Americans ain’t happy supplying arms neither are other principal countries but they do it under duress. The Russian leader’s behavior is disturbing and at times irrational. There appears to be no outward Kremlin sorrow for all the lives lost so far, and what happens if Putin faces absolute defeat in Ukraine? What would Starlin have done if faced with the same situation, we simply don’t know, and that is why our current peace is very precious indeed and is being held in the balance by a country hell-bent on destroying an independent European… Read more »

P.S. Note how close the man is to Putin who normally sits at the end of a very long table?

Maybe this is fake putin number 14. Folks on the internet were speculating it was a fake Putin wearing high heels at a recent event. He must be fake Putin number 8. He’s the short one.

They say Hitler had at least two fakes and Churchhill even got in on the act with one. King Natigago the Great (translates as, ‘He with the huge nose’) had one with interchangeable legs!

Even if we stopped weapon supplies immediate these threats, far from stopping would actually be encouraged but this time on the territory of Moldova, Georgia, Baltic States, Finland and Sweden, all of which have, be it all or in part of their land mass parts claimed by Russia. Indeed you just need to listen to Russian political scientist Grigory Yudin a guy far braver than I, I have to say, claiming that Putin is intent on re establishing control over all land of the former Soviet Union to create some form of greater Slavic Empire and effective control over Europe… Read more »

The thing is, after threatening us with nuclear war, if we were to stop assisting Ukraine, Putin (in all his malignant narcissism) would assume nukes were an adequate deterrent. So, as a mn, he would continue his conquest in other countries confident that the threat of nuclear war will keep everyone else in check. You can’t argue with the destruction of the world you know? There’s no wiggle room or gray area. It’s nukes or no.

Russian defeat on the ground in Ukraine is not certain, but looking increasingly likely, so Putin finds himself in a hole with very limited options and on that basis, unless Putin is removed from power, things seem certain to escalate because the madman can’t in his mind be seen to back down.

A Russian defeat is going to be extremely tough for Ukraine. I wish them success but realistically Russia has many defensive lines, have scattered loads of mines among lots of other things.
Hopefully at some point Russia decides it’s had enough as it’s a total meat grinder.
We will see how things progress over the spring/summer. I really hope Ukraine can get its country back under control and have peace. I support Ukraine fully in getting Russia out its country incase anyone thought otherwise.

Slightly off topic, but remaining with the conflict in the Ukraine. A very interesting story coming out of Iran last night was how a Iranian arms complex in the city of Isfahan which makes UAVs (Smack bang in the middle of the country) was hit by UAVs last night.

The only person that takes Putin’s empty threat seriously is old dementia Joe Biden.

Joe has dropped some bad ‘uns. Quitting Afghanistan gave the Taliban everything they wanted at massive human cost. But pocket-Mussolini Trump said great things of his pal Putin. So it could be worse.

Ordinarily I’d suggest this might be to provide basic introductory training to new tank crews, but in Russia’s case I wouldn’t be surprised if this is to equip a new prisoner-crewed armoured brigade for battle…

It’s quite funny really, Ukraine gets Leopards, Abrams and Challengers… and Russia gets T34s 🤣

This was a batch of 30 T-34/85 that started out in Vietnam (used against the US) were then sold to Laos. The Russians bought them back, as part of a T-72 sale deal, so that they could be renovated and used all over Russia for parades etc. This happened in 2019.

Makes for a fun story tho’.

Interesting how stories can go round and round and grow in the telling! Mind you, it would be fun to see whether they would really work for real.

This is tame compared with some of the stuff you hear from Russia. You probably already know but there’s a good channel on YouTube called Speak the truth They cover a lot of this stuff as well as general Ukraine related info.

The Americans supplied Stinger missiles to the Afghans fighting the Russians during the 80’s invasion and this alone arguably played a huge part in their defeat and withdrawal. From both sides including Russian support for North Korea and North Vietnam, the two powers have supplied weapons to allies and proxies, so Putin’s threats this time round seems over the top particularly when he talks of Nukes in retaliation. The simple and sinister truth is that if he is unhinged and dying then he might very well conclude-what the hell-unleash the dogs of war! The power of little men like Putin… Read more »

I can forgive them for believing their own hype, it wasn’t long ago that a respected commenter here was criticising the UK sending a destroyer to Ukraine and Georgia as the UK shouldn’t antagonise Russia in “their sea.”

Interestingly bo Jo has stated that in a conversation with Putin, he was threatened with a missile attack…in a sort of jokey way while discussing Russia not invading Ukraine….very very worrying, the use of nuclear blackmail is stepping onto a very dark road.

It makes you wonder what would happen if Biden weakened and Britain and France did not have nuclear deterrence.

Partially for home consumption and partially to worry Western citizens so support for Ukraine is undermined.
