In response to a written question from Neil Shastri-Hurst, Conservative MP for Solihull West and Shirley, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has outlined its commitment to ensuring that space remains a central pillar of future defence planning.
Shastri-Hurst queried whether the upcoming Strategic Defence Review would allocate sufficient funding for UK Space Command to meet its procurement and operational needs.
Luke Pollard, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, assured that space capabilities are being carefully considered as part of the review.
Pollard emphasised:
“The Strategic Defence Review is considering all aspects of Defence, including the major features of the force structure needed to create the necessary multi-domain integrated Defence capability of the future, of which space is a key part.”
The minister underscored the importance of space as a critical enabler for defence operations, highlighting that its integration is central to the UK’s modernisation and transformation plans.
The review is anticipated to align funding priorities with the evolving strategic importance of space capabilities, ensuring both procurement objectives and operational readiness are met. This response follows the MOD’s broader emphasis on adapting to multi-domain threats and leveraging cutting-edge technology to maintain the UK’s defence edge.
Further details on funding and capability investments are expected to be outlined in the Strategic Defence Review.
I hope the ISTSRI constellation is secure.
What is that Daniele and why is it important?
So who has the better badge the UK’s Space command or the US version?
Liking the British one loads, haven’t seen the US equivalent.
Why does it have a mouse pointer on it?
Because the force only exists on the internet? :>
😂😂😂
AI (UK based), robots and fusion energy research should be the government’s top priority to develop and keep it local to the UK. I know the current government has thrown in a few quid in this direction but it is just not enough. Imagine if we purchased & became reliant on Elon Musk’s (or anyone else) tech and one day he just decided to switch it all off remotely, the UK would be up the swanny without a paddle. This tech is evolving so, so fast and the UK government seems to be stuck in the mud over these issues.
