Further phases of the Sting Ray Mod 1 integration onto the RAF’s P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft are anticipated in 2027 but remain subject to investment decisions.
Minister of State for Defence Luke Pollard confirmed the position in response to a written question from Ben Obese-Jecty, the Conservative MP for Huntingdon, tabled on 26 May.
Pollard said the initial contract for the basic integration was awarded to BAE Systems Surface Ships Ltd in December 2024 and that “work is ongoing to deliver this initial capability,” but added that “further phases of integration are anticipated in 2027 but are subject to investment decisions.”
As the UK Defence Journal previously reported, a transparency notice published in April 2026 confirmed the intention to direct award a £19.2 million contract to BAE Systems Surface Ships Limited, with the contract due to be signed in February 2027 and running through to 2032 with an option to extend to 2035. The MoD cited BAE Systems’ unique technical expertise spanning more than 26 years, stating that no other supplier holds the specific technical expertise, experience or engineering capability required to safely deliver the integration while maintaining current levels of weapon effectiveness.
Sting Ray Mod 1 will complement rather than replace the Mk54, giving crews a sovereign British weapon alongside the American alternative. The MoD first announced its intention to select Sting Ray Mod 1 for the Poseidon fleet in late 2023.

Hasnt Norway has already committed to that integration combination. Firstly a few years ago and then reiterated again in Dec last year.
Wonder if Norway could also offer the JSM for the P8s and F35Bs and even F35As when they arrive? Does the Storm Shadow have a AShM ability?
Storm Shadow wasn’t conceived to hit moving targets.
Newer models can mid course correct so with target data updates from a suitable source it can.
I’ve gained $17,240 only within four weeks by comfortably working part-time from home. Immediately when I had lost my last business, I was very troubled and thankfully I’ve located this project now in this way I’m in a position to receive thousand USD directly from home. Each individual certainly can do this easy work & make more greenbacks online by visiting
following website—.,.,.,.,.—>>> JobatHome1.Com
But Norway isn’t going to give that away for free, they will want to get some of their investment back, so still requires money
If I hear the word ‘DIP’ everything is waiting for this to be published from Tanks/ships/rifles/weapons/stocks etc.if becoming tiring just publishing it NOW
Hope an Extra Half a Dozen P-8 Are in the DIP..!
Maybe Even Double the Fleet to 18..?
Just like every thing else on hold why Stamer ditthers,
Other priorities, like hotel bills for imports and dole money for over a million anxious young people with ADHD….
Not to mention financing the triple-lock for the coffin dodgers
Remember.. WE ALL GET OLD…!@
Which is why I listened to Thatcher in the 80’s and took out a private pension straight after university.
Or couldn’t you be arsed to think about the future?
Anyway, the state pension is the largest single-benefit of the welfare budget, accounting for 45% / £146bn.
Started my pot at 18…!
Your a bit Slow ..?
Well it’s pretty obvious you weren’t bright enough to go to university.
It’s Stuck up People Who Attended University Who’ve Got us into the Problems we have today..!
Don’t you Agree..!
All Knowledge and No Common Sense!!
Says the bloke with a massive chip on his shoulder because he wasn’t bright enough to go to university 🤣
Sure you’ll Pay off that Student Debt off One Day…!
Welcome to the Real World..!
Of Course AI Will make All University People totally Pointless..!
I did, August 1990.
That’s the thing about going to university, you get a high-paid job afterwards.
Janitorial!
“Of Course AI Will make All University People totally Pointless..!”
Well that proves:
(a) you obviously failed even mastering basic English grammar at school
(b) that you know absolutely nothing about AI.
AI Ain’t Artificial Insemination you Know..!?
So sorry to hear you ended-up as a janitor, but hey you didn’t make it to university, so limited life-choices for 🤷🏻♂️
“AI Ain’t Artificial Insemination you Know..!?”
Given that I specialised in AI when doing my Computer Science degree in the late 80s, and been in the industry ever since, I know way better than you ever could.
Ai has Rather Changed since the 1880s….!
Not Sure Pre-IBM stuff is Applicable these Days…!
“Ai has Rather Changed since the 1880s….!
Not Sure Pre-IBM stuff is Applicable these Days…!”
Mr Broken Key-Caps is at it again. 😆
Who is going to break it to him that people don’t live into their 170s?
You Obviously have an Inferiority Complex ..!
Perhaps moving into a old Age Crises..??
“You Obviously have an Inferiority Complex ..!
Perhaps moving into an old Age Crises..??”
It’s pretty obvious you’re projecting, given the huge chip on your shoulder about not being clever enough to go to university.
Sadly very dmtrue, and that will get worse not better. Regardless of who is in power .
Of course it does. Why we would want to buy something now we have spent millions testing it?
Money in the MICs pocket though.
Job done!
No, sure they’ll go on to to spend the necessary with this one.
I wait with bated breath..😊
Please don’t – you will go very blue….
Seriously? The money spent on this probably wouldn’t cover BAEs annual paper-clip bill.
Morning.
Of course it won’t, it’s chicken feed BAES wise.
People say money is wasted if we trial, test, whatever, and then don’t progress it. My thought was the MIC have still pocketed the cash, that doesn’t get reimbursed. So to them, Every little helps.
Wish I had shares in BAES long ago.
So you’d like BAE to do the work for free? 🤷🏻♂️
As it is the £19.2 million is the proposed contract for work from 2027 to 2032 inclusive. What would have been interesting to know would have been the amount to date for the initial work.
BTW the term “MIC” is an exclusively American term, not sure why you’re misusing it here.
Yes, it’s slipped into my locker to describe our own defence industries. Don’t let it bother you. 👍
Careful then, or you’ll be using the colours “blue” and “red” the wrong way round to describe political wings just like the Yanks do 🤦🏻♂️
For those experts on the subject of torpedoes, do we actually need Stingray to compliment the Mk54?
Because it’s much better.
Yes, GB has explained why many, many times here.
Indeef but that is primarily a financial tranaction plus data exchange. Not 18 months of testing and fit programs !
