Not being within NATO in no way excludes Ukraine, an aspiring European democracy (at the very least), from receiving overt, resolute military assistance from traditional western democracies, many of whom would be NATO members by default. Ironically, it just precludes having to get up to 30 countries to agree concerted action under the ‘attack one – attack all’ principal. In all likelyhood, the current situation allows for a far faster, more flexible reaction in the event of further aggression from Russia.
