Three men have been arrested under terror legislation after a taxi exploded outside Liverpool Women’s hospital earlier today.

It has been reported that police were called at approximately 11:00 a.m. UTC following reports of a car explosion.

The building went into lockdown and was cordoned off by the police; one person died and one was injured. Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation.

It has been confirmed that the dead individual was a passenger in the taxi and that the injured party was the driver.

Counter-Terrorism Police North-West said in a statement:

“We are leading the investigation with support from Merseyside police, and are keeping an open mind as to what has caused the explosion. We are working at a rapid pace to try and establish the circumstances behind this and will update in due course.”

Liverpool Women’s hospital said:

“We are reviewing our patient activity for the next 24-48 hours and patients should wait to be contacted for updates about any planned appointments or other attendance at the hospital. Our staff are being permitted to leave and enter the hospital under the supervision of Merseyside police. We would like to say thank you for the cooperation and support of our patients, visitors and staff who have been impacted by this incident, in particular those members of staff who were at the scene at the time of the incident.”

It’s sounding like this could be a repeat of the Aldwych bus bombing in ‘96 where a bomb went off accidentally en route to its intended target. Given the date/time it’s not difficult to speculate as to the target.

The Daily Mail, reveals that a bloke booked a taxis to take him to Liverpools Remembrance Day parade, but due to road closures couldn’t get through so was told to go to the local woman’s hospital, on route the driver noticed the passenger was fidgeting , nervous, and had something with a funny light, so he jumped out , locked him in the car, which is when the bloke went bang inside the motor. Funny enough I read the other day that police would be patrolling Christmas markets across the U.K. this year.

Ah, I see, interesting information, thanks Farouk …. The ridiculous irony of one of these nut jobs trying to take a bomb to a war memorial service!

Thank god the driver was on the ball, got out and the car appears to have contained the majority of the blast.

We can assume, based on this, it was a bomb designed to cause carnage in a packed crowd, fairly low on explosive, but high on lethal contents…

These people really are absolute savages.

Vehicle barriers being installed around more xmas markets this year. Intelligence info obviously indicating even higher threat levels. Been round Manchester xmas markets for years now of course

Being totally UN PC, to which I care not a jot.

What a result.

Like Begum, and assuming the passengers were the usual suspects, they treat having a British passport as a convenience, “their” country as an opportunity, and have no loyalty in their hearts for Great Britain, only for their cause.

Glad the driver got out. Give him a medal if its true he locked the guy in.

Yes a truly heart-warming story. And if the driver did as said yes he deserves a medal and some recompense for any financial losses.

Will be an interesting claim for his car insurance: taxi blown up by a nutter!

Am I right in saying this type of thing is excluded on car insurances but the Government normally pay up?

Technically excluded but really it’s about scale. They invariably pay out. That exclusion is for stuff like dirty bombs that does mass damage

Ive just received a video clip of the entire incident, (its real) and the cars (number and colur correspond to the above tweet of a burning vehicle. and the car explodes as the car is tipping up at the front enterence, the driver is still in the vehicle.
I don’t know if I can downlaod the vid here, but here are 2 screen dumps of the video as of the time of the detonation:

You can see the driver exiting the vehicle after the explosion. So somehow he managed to survive it.

Yeah, I saw the rumours start to circulate on Twatter last night. I refrained from posting anything here until officials had confirmed the details or distributed more information.

Top drawer to that chap. I’d buy him a pint or two!

Begum will be in the country soon after our bleeding heart lawyers and left wing agitators get their way. But that’s what the left want which is a divided society and what better way of doing it than import killers from abroad to murder us in our streets. The Tories have lost control (as did Labour) or the Asylum and immigration system. The head of the border farce (instead of force) said he hated borders…something he was paid to protect. You couldn’t make it up how the far left have penetrated into the key positions in government and the civil… Read more »

There is a law in the UK relating to treason which hasn’t been used in a long time. Needs dusting off. I would be more impressed with the relevant laws in this country if the likes of Begum were resisting attempts by the UK to bring her home to face justice.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Merseyside Police / CPS “look into” whether there’s a case of manslaughter to be brought against the cab driver (instead of a George Medal that he deserves)

Can’t wait for someone to start the old straw man argument – what about the English far right don’t blame first, second and third generation migrants from war torn countries they are all peace loving people. Well this policy of asylum is a joke in my own opinion. Time to dispense with the 1951 UN asylum act as it isn’t fit for the 21st century of mass migration (it’s not actually logically from any perspective whatsoever). In addition if someone has two passports immediately revoke the British passport for any such crimes as these (personally I would do it for… Read more »

Lucky break by the looks of things. It will be interesting to see if this individual and wider circle were known or unknown to security services.

On another note, I hope the tax driver gets plenty of help, someone exploding in your taxi s going to mess with your head a bit.

What we all need to now and the Government should tell us is whether this is a the work of a sad loner nut job or part of a planned concerted campaign. Personally I think these people are so very sad losers. Billy Connelly has it right:

Interestingly the mood music now seems to be more around a potential mental health incident. considering the taxi driver only suffered minor injuries while in the car when the device went off it could be some form of complex suicide. if it was mental health ( and it now comes out the guy had a history) it looks like it may not be a security services problem and more a health problem. i know it sounds pedantic but you always need to remove mental health driven events from ideology driven events as they have different causes and cures. what is… Read more »

Yes, they are making a big thing about his mental health and his conversion to Christianity in the press. It’s almost like they don’t want to mention this mentally ill person decided to commit suicide “by suicide bomb” at 11am on Remembrance Sunday less than a quarter of a mile away from a Remembrance Event.

Don’t forget people suicide by doing all sort to others, shooting their families or random others. The point with the mentally ill who are dangerous is that we are not great at spotting them and intervening. I’ve seen and investigated some pretty horrible things done because of this failure of our ability to spot and manage individuals with dangerous mental illness. It cannot be conflated with actual terror attacks or terror groups, the later is a threat to our National security the former a sad outcome of a diseased mind. Although with the internet, terror groups can and do weapons… Read more »
