In a remarkable act of bravery three Army Reservists from the 157 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps rushed to the rescue of a man found drowning in the sea.

Private Leah Duguid, on guard duty during the early hours of the morning for the Wales Air Show, was the first to hear faint cries for help coming from the sea.

Reacting swiftly, she attempted to locate the source but was hindered by her inability to swim past the large swell. Despite this, she assured the distressed individual of her return with help.

Lance Corporal Joshua Sherman, alerted by Duguid, then took over the rescue operation. As a strong swimmer, he entered the water to locate the distressed individual. Sherman recounted, โ€œAfter swimming for a little while in the pitch black I stumbled upon him and stopped short to prevent him from panicking and dragging me under the water. I instructed him to turn away from me and that I was going to put my arm over his shoulder and tow him back to shore.โ€

South Wales Police confirmed their attendance at the scene following the alert from the soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Angela Briggs, Commanding Officer of 157 Regiment RLC, praised her soldiers for their heroic actions. She said, โ€œThe actions of Cpl Martin, LCpl Sherman, and Pte Duguid were remarkable โ€“ the latter two risking their lives to save another. Their heroic actions epitomise the values of the British Army, namely, courage and selfless commitment and without the quick thinking of all three soldiers the outcome could have been tragic. I am extremely proud of them and truly believe that their training within the Army Reserve would have played a significant part in how they responded to the situation.โ€
