The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to exact a devastating toll on Russian forces, with November 2024 marking a grim milestone in casualty figures.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), citing Ukrainian General Staff reporting, stated:

“The average daily Russian casualties (killed and wounded) in the Russia-Ukraine conflict reached a new monthly war high during November 2024. The average daily loss rate was 1,523, according to Ukrainian General Staff reporting. This is the third straight month that Russian Forces have sustained new war high average daily losses. 28 November also saw a new war high of 2,030 losses in a single day, the first time more than 2,000 have been reported.

November 2024 was also likely the most costly month of the war for Russia with a total of 45,680 casualties reported by the Ukraine General Staff. 41,980 Russian casualties were recorded in October 2024. November was the fifth straight month that Russian Forces have suffered an increase in monthly total losses.

The high rate of casualties is likely reflective of the higher tempo of Russian operations and offensives. Russia is attempting to increase the pressure on Ukrainian lines as they seek to push Ukrainian Forces back on several fronts.”

This significant escalation in Russian losses coincides with an increased tempo of Ukrainian defensive actions. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, November was also marked by substantial losses in Russian military hardware.

Ukrainian defenders reportedly destroyed over 300 tanks, almost 900 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and 900 artillery systems.

Additionally, they neutralised several rare and expensive Russian weapons systems, including the S-400 Triumph air defence system, the Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare system, the Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar, and the TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system.

The Ukrainian MOD expressed confidence in their efforts, declaring, “Ukraine will win!”

These figures reflect the heavy attrition on the battlefield as Russia pursues aggressive offensives aimed at pushing Ukrainian forces back. However, the resilience and effectiveness of Ukrainian defensive operations continue to present significant challenges to Russian advances, further compounding Moscow’s mounting human and material losses.

  1. It’s amazing, if only MAGA could read they might not be so eager to surrender to the Russians. The Russians can join a select group of nations that have defeated the US military including North Vietnam, and Afghanistan. The Russians however will be the only military to cause the USA to surrender without actually firing any shots.

  2. Putting the awful meat-grinder strategy to one side, it is amazing that Russia can still fight given the losses. How long can they keep this up one wonders.

Maybe they just need to keep going until the end of January, hoping they are in a better position when Trump tells Ukraine to negotiate or lose support.

    • It’s almost as if you shouldn’t believe the propaganda of the opposing side when trying to analyse things. The Ukraine are selling a narrative of an impossible victory to try and keep the pointless weapon supply from the Western nations. Only one side has packs of roving thugs grabbing people off the streets to be sent to catch bullets.

        • Look in the mirror, vermin. The fact you side with right trash MAGA defeatist cowards shows your true character. Like Luke you’re 🤡💩

      • Oh yeah, unlike the Ruzzkies sending their prison refuse to the front, not to mention coercing their ethnic minorities (and desperately poor cannon fodder from overseas) to fight for meagre rubles… Kleptocrap kids are immune from this of course, just like their brethren in the States (Trump, et al). No wonder, like you, the Mango Mussolini worships Putin.

The Ukrainians are fighting for their country’s existence, so their men (and women) *should* be rounded up if they’re eligible to serve – something you and your ilk would never do: I guess because it’s too “woke” to fight fascists 🤣

It’s the “peace in our time” appeasers grovelling to dictators that lose wars, deliberately so I suspect. Right whingers stick together, which is why you like to kiss Daniella the Italian lady-boy’s arse…

  3. It is all very well looking at the Russian casualty figures and thinking that they are losing and Ukraine is therefore winning. Sadly this war is largely all about land and Ukraine has lost 40% of the 1000 square km they seized in the Kursk province. More to the point, the Russians have been making incremental gains in Ukraine.
On that basis, Russia is winning by a fine margin and Ukraine is sadly losing. Russia has got more manpower to throw into the meatgrinder. Kim Jong-Un has supplied at least 10,000 North Koreans and there are plenty more where they came from. Some have speculated that Kim could send 100k troops in total.

    • Yes but it’s a pyrrhic victory- literally not worth dying on a hill for but they are, hordes of them Those losses will count more in the longer run against Russia, than a few miles of farmland.

      • Potentially a Pyrrhic victory. It only really counts as a Pyrrhic victor if the ‘winner’ goes on to get a kicking subsequently if I remember the story correctly. So Russia would have to going looking for a fight with NATO and get a serious whopping to cap off the Pryyhic victory in Ukraine.

The west needs to supply lots more kit to Ukraine. I do wonder if lots more M2 HMG be a good bet, with plenty of bullets, along with as many NLAW as can be turned out. Given the way Russia is fighting at the moment this type of ‘simple’ and ‘cheap’ weapon supplied in huge quantities might not be such a bad idea as it would allow the Ukrainians to blaze away at the contact battle. Plenty of 155 shells as well…

        Cheers CR

        • It would be a pyrrhic victory in the sense that Russia will be resource weary at the end of this campaign and combat ineffective against a NATO army for a significant period.
The reputational damage of Russia on the international stage in terms of its armed forces are going to be hard to recover on and they have shown China a weak hand.

      • Hi Wasp, Putin does not mind if it is a victory at great cost. So long as he emerges from this war with retention of Crimea, to gain the 4 Donbas republics and for Zelensky to be banned from swiftly securing NATO membership, he will be delighted.

    • Ukraine has a population of about 37m and Russia has about 144m. That means Ukraine has to inflict losses on the Russians at a rate of about 4:1.

Looking at a range estimates the most likely ratio is about 2:1… if accurate Ukraine is struggling. Numbers count… Take note HMG.

      Cheers CR

      • In light of the escalating conflict and increasing casualties on both sides, the argument for supplying Ukraine with more lethal weapons becomes imperative, despite the traditional military guideline of maintaining a 3:1 ratio in terms of forces. The current situation illustrates that Ukraine’s strategic and tactical equilibrium remains vital to counteracting Russia’s overwhelming numerical advantage, which is reflected in their population size of 4:1.

First and foremost, the record-high casualties reported among Russian forces signal a critical weakening of their operational capabilities. The data shows that Russian casualties average over 1,500 daily, culminating in nearly 46,000 losses in just one month. This significant attrition, coupled with increased Ukrainian defensive actions that have successfully decimated Russian military hardware, indicates that Ukrainian forces are effectively leveraging their resources. Supplying Ukraine with more lethal weapons would enhance their ability to maintain and possibly escalate this attrition rate, which is proving beneficial against a numerically superior foe.

Moreover, as the article highlights, Ukraine’s capacity to effectively neutralise advanced Russian systems demonstrates that tactical skill and innovative warfare strategies can offset the raw numbers. By enhancing their arsenal, Ukraine can maximise this advantage, creating more lethal engagements that would compensate for the disparities in troop strength. More sophisticated modern weaponry would allow them to conduct operations that further degrade Russian capabilities, potentially leading to a shift in the battlefield dynamics.

While traditional military theory may suggest adhering to a 3:1 advantage for the attacking side to ensure success, the context of asymmetric warfare complicates this equation. Ukraine’s ongoing success in defensive and offensive operations indicates that with the right support, they can continue to exploit Russia’s weaknesses. In modern conflicts, technology and tactics often outweigh numbers. Therefore, providing lethal support to Ukraine becomes a strategic necessity to ensure their sustained resistance and potential counter-offensives.

Additionally, the humanitarian implications cannot be overlooked. Supporting Ukraine not only serves the immediate tactical objective but also aligns with the broader moral imperative to support an ally under assault. A stronger Ukraine would signify resilience against aggression—setting a precedent against larger powers that threaten sovereignty.

    • It is also about attrition both military and industrial.
Russia has shown its ability to keep attacking despite huge losses.

All ground gained is by pyrrhic victory, and what they eventually capture is a pile of rubble where a town/ city once stood.
However, at the end of the day, they are capturing territory and holding on to it.

The best UKR could hope for now is political/economic collapse within Russia, or direct intervention by NATO.

  4. How to win against a foe who’s dictator cares nothing for the loss of Russian life, and a populace who are either ignorant of what’s going on, or so brainwashed by internal propaganda that they think this is a just cause?

  5. so the information isn’t credible at all then, no matter how many times it’s repeated

like the americans in vietnam, ukraine will be killing people all over again

  6. Lavrov was interviewed by Tucker this week and his obs where the promised land is worse for civilian deaths than Ukraine, no comment on Russian casualties, America likes fishing in muddy waters i.e. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and this week Syria, Don is a strong man and the Americans cannot expect only their allies (us) to suffer if there is a limited nuclear war, which he says he doesn’t want. Personally I’m sick of Russians and Americans plus all they’re violent war mad friends and rhetoric. Russian roulette with nukes won’t end well.
    Make peace you idiots ♾️❤️☮️

  7. Good evening everyone.by the look of Russia’s recent economy.it looks as if the country is nearing the brink of implosion.ukraine had hung on for their country this long that I pray for them to continue to receive munitions from the west to continue the fight just long enough for the Russian people to inevitably stand up against Putin and his dictatorship. China it seems is possibly also tiring of Putin. What a change alexi navaly could have been for the country!. sadly too late now. Thankyou all.god bless.
