The British Army has announced a partnership with Speedworks Motorsport for the 2026 British Touring Car Championship season, aimed at promoting technical careers and engaging younger audiences.
The collaboration will see the Army establish a presence at race events across the UK, including dedicated fan zones featuring equipment displays and demonstrations. The initiative is intended to highlight links between motorsport engineering and military roles, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
According to the Army, the partnership is designed to showcase career opportunities within the service by drawing parallels between motorsport and military environments, both of which rely on precision, teamwork and performance under pressure. As part of the programme, soldiers from the British Army Motorsport Association will be embedded within the Speedworks Motorsport garage during race weekends. The exchange is intended to allow personnel from both organisations to share experience and practices from high-performance settings.
The partnership will also include outreach activity beyond race days. Speedworks Motorsport is expected to host STEM workshops and visits for cadets and youth groups at its headquarters, providing exposure to professional motorsport engineering environments.
Colonel Rich Hall MBE, Head of British Army Regional Engagement, said: “Motorsport and the military share the same values – precision, teamwork and performing under pressure.” He added: “By bringing soldiers into the race team environment and hosting STEM workshops for young people, we can show that the Army offers genuinely rewarding careers for those with technical aptitudes.”
Christian Dick, Team Principal at Speedworks Motorsport, said the partnership would extend beyond traditional sponsorship. “This partnership goes beyond traditional sponsorship – it’s about recognising the technical skills, teamwork and composure that define success both on the racetrack and in military service.” He added: “Together with the Army, we’re going to inspire the next generation of engineers, whether they pursue careers in motorsport, the military, or both.”
