Babcock has entered a five-year engineering framework agreement with AtkinsRéalis to support critical UK defence and submarine programmes.
The agreement forms part of a wider strategy to build closer long-term partnerships with key suppliers, creating what Babcock describes as a simpler and more consistent route for bringing specialist engineering expertise into critical defence programmes. Similar five-year agreements have also been established with nine other strategic suppliers across Babcock’s defence portfolio.
David Tytherleigh, Babcock Director of Growth and Strategic Procurement Nuclear, said the approach “allows us to more effectively deliver specialist engineering capability, collaborating with trusted suppliers who are ready to support capacity when required,” adding that the company is “delighted to be working even more closely with our suppliers to combine our expertise in planning future projects ahead of implementation.”
AtkinsRéalis Market Director for Defence Infrastructure, Andy Albutt, said the appointment builds on a long-standing relationship with Babcock, “extending our multi disciplinary role across complex defence infrastructure and new platforms, while supporting Babcock as it scales its global defence programmes.”
The framework enables suppliers to support multiple projects more quickly, with access to a centralised contract allowing them to contribute engineering expertise earlier in programme development. Babcock said the arrangement is focused on shared expertise, early engagement and sustainable programme delivery.
AtkinsRéalis is a Canada-headquartered engineering and project management firm with a significant UK defence footprint, operating across infrastructure, nuclear and complex systems programmes. Its involvement with Babcock spans a range of work tied to the UK’s submarine enterprise, where demand for specialist engineering capacity has grown considerably as the programme scales to meet both current maintenance requirements and future obligations under AUKUS.
