NATO’s Headquarters Allied Air Command sent a Mobile Training Team to Morocco to conduct training with the Royal Moroccan Forces on the subject of Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR).
According to a statement:
“The AIRCOM team conducted a series of briefings to 46 Royal Moroccan Forces officers at the 1st Royal Moroccan Air Force Base, Sale, Morocco. Their goal was to inform the audience about NATO’s ISTAR Standards, best practices, and lessons learned, providing critical knowledge to enable greater interoperability with NATO.”
“We were honoured to be able to teach about this key specialty in Morocco to such highly qualified and interactive officers with operational experience of great significance,” said Team Leader, French Colonel Thierry Coupeau.
“Our team’s visit has been a huge success, which started with a very warm welcome from Morocco and the opportunity to better understand the structures of the Royal Moroccan Force’.  There is no doubt in my mind that there will be future opportunities to further enable the integration and cooperation of NATO and Morocco.”
Since 1995, Morocco has been a member of the partnership framework, specifically the NATO Mediterranean Dialogue Programme.
“Morocco continues to be active in Partnership Cooperation Menu activities, to include various mobile training team visits and exercises.  Morocco has also contributed to NATO operations. Relations between Morocco and NATO have seen sustained development, making Morocco a privileged partner, as they seek to achieve greater security in the region. On 22 January 2019, NATO and Morocco organized a joint public diplomacy event in Rabat, Morocco to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mediterranean Dialogue and NATO-Morocco cooperation.”
