Navantia UK has confirmed visible progress at its Arnish facility in the Western Isles, with new welfare and office buildings now delivered as part of its wider GBP 115 million UK investment programme.

The company said the new facilities include a welfare block and upgraded office accommodation, complementing earlier site improvements such as expanded car parking and the installation of energy-efficient heating systems. The upgrades are intended to support the wellbeing and development of Arnish’s workforce, which currently numbers around 150 employees, while also providing improved space for visiting clients as the yard expands its role in the energy sector.

The latest developments follow commitments made by Navantia UK after its acquisition of the former Harland & Wolff sites in Belfast, Appledore, Arnish and Methil. The company has previously stated that its priorities include protecting jobs, modernising facilities and rebuilding long-term industrial capability across its UK yards.

In a year-end update issued earlier this month, Navantia UK said its investment programme was delivering modernisation across all sites, alongside growth in its workforce to more than 1,100 employees, including over 200 apprentices. The firm also highlighted ongoing progress on the Fleet Solid Support ship programme for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, as well as energy sector work being undertaken at Arnish.

Navantia UK has positioned the Arnish yard as a key location for international energy contracts, alongside future offshore and industrial opportunities, as part of its wider strategy to establish a long-term UK industrial footprint. The company said the new facilities are intended to ensure Arnish is equipped to meet current workloads while preparing the site for future growth opportunities.
