2 weeks to the Dnieper, 5 weeks to the Carpathians but then what? 40 million people, an area twice the size of France & a western backed insurgency, Putin would need to base hundreds of thousands of troops in the Ukraine for ever more.

He isn’t that stupid.

Artillery are moving from their muster points to forward deployment positions 20 miles from the border, under their own power rather than on trailers. Helicopter gunships have also been forward deployed to the closest airfield to the border.

New bridge constructed on the 15th over the river Pripyat four miles from the Belarus-Ukraine border close to the Chernobyl region and about 80-90km from Kiev. Very low population area but quite marshy with a network of dirt tracks leading to Chernobyl from an abandoned Belarussian town nearby and from Chernobyl you have access to the Ukrainian highway network.

Amelia Smith on Twitter: “Recent Planet imagery of the Pripyat river in Belarus near the RU-UA border shows a new bridge having been constructed earlier today. https://t.co/cMTpMGrkHP” / Twitter
