A recently released video animation provides a rapid overview of British military aviation, encapsulating 24 hours of activity in just 60 seconds.

The clip shows hundreds of sorties undertaken within a single day throughout every part of the United Kingdom. Of note, to me anyway, is the deployment of an RC-135 aircraft, which keeps watch over Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

The video shows typical training drills of Typhoon fighter jets over the North Sea, helicopters flying from RAF Shawbury, Voyagers returning from the states, C-17s heading elsewhere and dozens of other tasks undertaken by the array of aircraft used by British forces.

So here it is.

  1. Perhaps if they had not condensed the picture into 60 secs the movements woudn’t have been very impressive compared to earlier years when the RAF had many more active airfields and hundreds more aircraft. .

  2. I have been watching this for 1 1/2 years now – the last few days did see a rather significant amout of extra sorties over the whole of Europe, especially Belgium, North Sea, UK. Nothin unusual per se, but the sheer number of exercises is currently larger than a few years ago. We know why.

  3. Not all aircraft have their transponders switched on, but those that do – trainers and transports in particular are very busy.

  4. Interesting.

We noticed a Chinook fly over yesterday, even circle over south Manchester. It shows in this video, but did not show on civilian displays!
