The US Coast Guard has responded to a report of a military aircraft collision involving two helicopters off the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii it has been reported.

It is understood that the helicopters were conducting a night training mission at the time of the accident.

A search and rescue effort is underway for two CH-53’s. The aircraft are from the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing based in Hawaii. Each helicopter was carrying six people.

A MH65 helicopter and an HC-130 are taking part in the search with assistance from a US Navy helicopter crew and the Honolulu Fire Department.

Guess collision avoidance systems wasn’t available to Spitfire pilots….
