The UK government has refused to comment on whether the United States’ recent pause in intelligence sharing with Ukraine affected British intelligence operations, including the use of RC-135W Rivet Joint aircraft.
The response comes as the US has now resumed intelligence-sharing with Kyiv ahead of a potential ceasefire.
The issue was raised in Parliament by James Cartlidge, Conservative MP for South Suffolk, who asked the Secretary of State for Defence about the potential impact of the US decision on UK intelligence support for Ukraine. In response, Defence Minister Luke Pollard maintained the government’s long-standing policy of not discussing intelligence matters, stating:
“There is a long-standing position of successive Governments not to comment on specific intelligence capabilities or detail concerning intelligence operations.”
The refusal to comment comes at a critical time, as Ukraine navigates complex negotiations amid ongoing conflict with Russia. While the temporary halt in US intelligence-sharing raised concerns over potential operational gaps for Ukraine, Washington has now resumed its support, reportedly in anticipation of a possible ceasefire agreement.
The UK operates RC-135W Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft, which provide critical signals intelligence (SIGINT) by monitoring communications and radar emissions.
These aircraft have played a key role in supporting Ukraine, flying regular missions over Eastern Europe. However, with no confirmation from the UK government, it remains unclear whether British intelligence-sharing was affected during the US pause or whether UK operations continued independently.

I suggest we quickly detach ourselves from from any American influence and control as quickly as possible.
Further given the damage that the American withdrawal of intelligence sharing has done to Ukraine in a matter of days. The NATO allies minus our “ friends” from across the pond need to rapidly develop a capability equal to the Americans if not better, under NATO command.
I’m not sure why they Uk would want to make a comment..it’s not HMG doing it and there is no benefit for any party in HMG making a comment.
