NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Boris Ruge, visited Switzerland on 23–24 October for high-level discussions with international partners.

It marked his first visit to the NATO Liaison Office (NLO) to international organisations in Geneva since the office opened in August 2024.

According to NATO, Ruge co-chaired the 18th round of annual staff talks between the Alliance and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The discussions focused on coordination in areas such as arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international humanitarian law.

Ruge also met with Allied Permanent Representatives in Geneva, where he briefed them on NATO’s current priorities and exchanged views on emerging technologies and related security issues. Separate meetings were held with the Permanent Representatives of NATO’s Indo-Pacific partners.

During his visit, Ruge delivered a keynote address at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) on the implementation of decisions made at The Hague Summit earlier this year.

NATO said participants in Ruge’s meetings welcomed the establishment of the Liaison Office, describing it as “useful in advancing political dialogue between NATO and international organisations based in Geneva.”
