Saab has launched Poland’s second signals intelligence vessel, ORP Henryk Zygalski, during a ceremony held in Gdańsk on 14 January.
The ship is the second and final platform being delivered under Poland’s DELFIN programme. The first vessel, ORP Jerzy Różycki, was launched in July 2025. Saab said both ships will now undergo installation of their reconnaissance systems followed by sea trials before entering operational service.
Commenting on the milestone, Mats Wicksell, Head of Saab’s Kockums business area, said: “We are pleased to see the second Polish SIGINT ship successfully launched today. With this important project we are strengthening cooperation between Swedish and Polish industries in support of European security in the Baltic Sea region.”
The vessels are intended to conduct maritime signals intelligence tasks. According to Saab, their ship-based electronic intelligence systems are designed to enable the collection of intelligence data across the full spectrum of maritime electronic emissions.
Saab is acting as prime contractor for the DELFIN programme. Construction of the hulls has been carried out by Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Poland, while Polish firm MMC has supported the design work. Saab stated that it is fully responsible for the delivery and integration of the mission systems.
Other companies from the Polish defence industry are also involved in the programme, supporting various elements of construction and outfitting, the company said.
Following completion of onboard installation work and sea trials, deliveries of the two SIGINT vessels are planned for 2027 and 2028, according to Saab.
