An estimated 15,000 people are expected to attend Devonport Open Days 2026, as Babcock and the Royal Navy open the co-located Devonport site for a second consecutive year, Babcock stated.
The two-day event includes a dedicated family day for employees and a public open day, offering access behind the walls of one of the UK’s most strategically important naval bases. According to Babcock, tickets for both days were quickly secured following last year’s event, with highlights including interactive displays, presentations, hands-on STEM experiences, river rides, exhibitions from local partners and charities, and the chance to step aboard Royal Navy vessels.
Babcock said the open days give the local community a greater understanding of the work carried out at Devonport and its role in supporting the armed forces. As home to the deep maintenance and refit of the Royal Navy’s nuclear-powered submarines, the base is central to maintaining the Continuous At Sea Deterrent. The event also places a focus on inspiring future engineers, scientists and technologists through STEM activities and demonstrations.
John Gane, Managing Director at Babcock’s Devonport facility, was quoted in the press release as saying: “This is an exciting time for Plymouth, with unprecedented levels of investment and growth not seen for generations. As one of the city’s largest employers, Babcock is proud to be part of the fabric of Plymouth, supporting its communities, economy and maritime heritage. Through partnerships like Team Plymouth, and by bringing our ambitious plans to life through the introduction of a Capability Centre in the heart of the city, we can make a real difference to local people.”
He added: “Delivering these events again this year alongside our Royal Navy colleagues gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication and expertise of our people, the opportunities we offer, and the vital contribution Devonport makes to the defence of our nation, while inspiring future generations to explore careers in STEM and defence.”
Naval Base Commander Commodore Jane Roe was quoted in the press release as saying: “We hope everyone who visits HM Naval Base Devonport has a fantastic experience. It is a privilege to welcome so many people through our gates and showcase the remarkable work that takes place here every day.”

Events such as Devonport Open Days provide a valuable opportunity for people to see behind the walls and gain a greater understanding of the scale, complexity and importance of the work being delivered here.
