The US Navy has awarded British defence company IrvinGQ a $14.7 million contract modification for further production of the MK-59 Floating Decoy System, with most of the work to be carried out in the UK.

The firm-fixed-price modification exercises Option Year One under an existing contract and covers continued production of the MK-59 system, according to the US Department of War. IrvinGQ is based in Llangeinor, Bridgend, where 64% of the work will be undertaken. A further 11% will be carried out in York, meaning three-quarters of the programme activity identified in the award will take place in the United Kingdom.

The US Department of War said: “IrvinGQ Ltd., Llangeinor, Bridgend, United Kingdom, is awarded a $14,743,469 firm-fixed-price contract modification for Option Year One production of the MK-59 Floating Decoy System.”

Additional work will be carried out in West Fargo, North Dakota, accounting for 16% of the contract, and Bloomfield, Connecticut, accounting for 2%. The remaining 7% will be spread across several locations, each representing less than 2% of the total. Production under the latest award is expected to be completed by March 2028.

The US Navy is funding the work through Fiscal 2026 Other Procurement (Navy) funding, with the full $14,743,469 being obligated at the time of award. The department said the funding “will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.”

According to the contract notice, the award was made under provisions allowing procurement from a single responsible source where no other supplies or services will satisfy the requirement.

The US Department of War said: “This contract was not competitively procured in accordance with 10 U.S. Code 2304(c)(1) (only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements).”
