Babcock has been awarded a four-year extension to its Light Aircraft Flying Task (LAFT) contract, which will continue its provision of military flying training to the Royal Air Force.
The contract covers a range of training activities, including University Air Squadron flying, air experience flights for RAF Air Cadets, and flying grading for Army and Royal Navy personnel. It also supports international defence training requirements.
Operating across multiple UK locations, the LAFT fleet has flown more than 775,000 hours to date. Under the extension, Babcock will continue to provide aircraft, engineering support, asset management, air traffic control, fire and rescue services, and flying instruction.
The company said the agreement reinforces its long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Defence and ensures continued access to training for new pilots.
Tom Morton, Managing Director of Babcock’s UK Aviation business, said: “This contract extension means the MOD will continue to receive a dependable, high quality flying training service that supports those learning to fly.”
He added: “By maintaining strong aircraft availability and consistent instructional standards, we help create a training environment that builds confidence at every stage.”
Morton also noted the role of experience within the organisation, stating: “Our teams bring deep experience across all aspects of flying training, and that expertise shapes the service we deliver each day. The extension reflects the trust placed in our people and the strength of our relationship with the MOD.”

I make $14000 per hour blah blah blah.
Sorry, just joining in with the current trend !
Seriously though, this Is good to see as It isn’t something that has been gapped to save money.
TorpedoJ, Is this your thing ?
I’ve gained $17,240 only within four weeks by comfortably working part-time from home. Immediately when I had lost my last business, I was very troubled and thankfully I’ve located this project now in this way I’m in a position to receive thousand USD directly from home. Each individual certainly can do this easy work & make more greenbacks online by visiting

This is indeed my thing, I account for one or two of those 775,000 hours.
The operation is pretty much all Babcock apart from the roundels on the planes, I’m not sure I’ve actually met serving RAF staff on AEF.
It was no different 50 years ago – Chipmunks serviced by a civilian outfit and flown by RAFVR pilots. Loved my AEF as a Cadet. And later as an ATC Chaplain though the last time I did aerobatics I felt like I’d strained every muscle in my body!
If you were meant to fly without aches and pains, God would have given you wings !
🤣 When I did get a PPL it was for microlights and everything was definitely straight and level! The marvel of a weight shift aircraft is that the wings are an extension of your arms, so your really do feel like you’ve got wings.
At least I know I have a job for the next four years.
It doesn’t meet the needs of air cadets in the south of England… Most.of the cadets are based south of the M4 and the aircraft are all serving the northern counties and Scotland. It’s a rubbish distribution that suits government claims to be improving things – leveling up… But at the expense of kids in southern counties
