A dramatic demonstration of military might occurred recently as Royal Marines from Arbroath-based 45 Commando conducted a dusk raid on the Baltic beach of Kaberneeme, Estonia.

This manoeuvre formed part of a considerable NATO exercise aimed at bolstering the UK-led NATO battlegroup’s position in Estonia.

The Royal Marines were deployed from the Royal Navy’s amphibious flagship, HMS Albion, which is currently a month into leading the task group, Littoral Response Group North, in the Baltic Sea.

Launching under the diminishing twilight, the Royal Marines navigated their way in small raiding crafts across the tranquil waters of the Baltic Sea, dimly illuminated by the setting sun’s fading amber glow. Kaberneeme, the chosen location, is situated on Estonia’s north coast, approximately a 40-minute drive from the capital city, Tallinn.

The beach raid exercise saw the 45 Commando pitted against Estonia’s Armed Forces. An Estonian naval missile unit played the role of the commandos’ ‘adversary’, providing the Marines with a valuable opportunity to hone their skills in swiftly infiltrating hostile territory, securing information, disorientating the enemy, and targeting high-value targets.

Captain Marcus Hember, the Commanding Officer of HMS Albion, praised the exercise, stating, “This exercise has been a fantastic proving ground in demonstrating the flexibility of amphibious ships like the HMS Albion. It has enabled rapid and lethal strikes by our embedded Royal Marines in 45 Commando, whilst being seamlessly supported by the ship and its crew.”

He went on to emphasise their readiness, adding, “We’ve demonstrated our ability to exercise with our regional partners, thus adding significant capability and proven we can ‘turn up when needed’.”

  1. There are no Ukranian Troops in Russia.
Only local militias that have risen up against Putin and armed themselves with weapons and vehicles plundered from Russian Depots.
They are going to hold a fair, and completely unbiased referendum to decide the future of the Belgorod Peoples Republic

Can we all join together in demanding the Putin withdraw all Russian troops from the BNR and stop prolonging the War and suffering of the people of Belgorod (which is ethnically Ukranian anyway, so it would be completely justified if there were any little green men in Belgorod, which there aren’t).

  2. I suppose it makes a change us sending small boats full of fighting age males to European beaches 😇

  4. How on earth can Russia call Ukraine terrorists when they have consistently bombed hospitals, homes killing thousands of civilians. Now they have put a threat order on UK ministers involved in the support for Ukraine. It’s Putin and his warlords who need eliminating threatening Europe and the planet with non nuclear and nuclear war .
