British maritime technology firm SubSea Craft has revealed its latest innovation, the MARS Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), delivering the capability from concept to water in only 100 days in response to rapidly evolving global demand.

Unveiled on 1 May in Portsmouth, MARS is SubSea Craft’s second platform following the VICTA diver delivery craft. The new vessel is designed for autonomy, survivability, and modular mission flexibility in contested and distributed maritime environments.

“There is a clear global need for the responsive development of advanced maritime platforms that can meet evolving force requirements and objectives,” said Camilla Martin, CEO of SubSea Craft. “At SubSea Craft we are proud to be representing the UK on the international stage in creating scalable technologies. These can be built and serviced in-country to boost both domestic maritime capabilities and the agility of our allies.”

MARS supports multiple mission profiles, including:

  • Wingman operations to minimise risk to manned platforms
  • ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) missions with long-range surveillance in degraded communications environments
  • Multi-domain payload delivery, including integration with kinetic and non-kinetic systems such as Anduril’s ALTIUS

Following its manufacture in the UK, MARS underwent open water testing with AUKUS partners, including the Australian Maritime College. The platform uses the same open architecture digital control system as SubSea Craft’s VICTA and is intended to complement allied naval operations under the AUKUS interoperability framework.

“MARS has emerged as a disruptive force for the modern battlespace,” said Penny Mordaunt, Chair of SubSea Craft and former UK Defence Secretary. “Its successful testing following an impressive turnaround from its ideation is testament to SubSea Craft’s cutting-edge approach to accelerated research, development and delivery.”

The vessel will be showcased at SOF Week in Tampa, DEFEA in Athens, and DSEI in London throughout 2025.

SubSea Craft is positioning itself as a leader in modular, digital, and autonomous maritime platforms tailored for future naval needs across surface, sub-surface, and unmanned environments.
