BAE Systems is supplying AN/ALR-56M Advanced Radar Warning Receivers to the U.S. Air Force for use in C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, under contracts totalling $133 million with the Defense Logistics Agency, according to a press release.
These radar warning receivers are designed to enhance situational awareness and self-defence capabilities for the aircraft.
In the press release, Lindsay Gallagher, Tactical Aircraft Electronic Warfare Systems director at BAE Systems, commented, “The AN/ALR-56M has shown what it can bring to the fight, and it is keeping these critical aircraft relevant against evolving threats in contested battlespaces.” Gallagher mentioned the importance of the 56M as a part of the fleet’s electromagnetic warfare capabilities.
The AN/ALR-56M system provides broad-spectrum, long-range threat detection and employs adaptive filtering to isolate threat signals in dense signal environments, as noted in the press release. It alerts pilots to modern search, acquisition, and tracking radars, enabling them to respond to threats effectively.
According to the company, the AN/ALR-56M integrates seamlessly with other aircraft systems, including jammers, countermeasure dispensers, and radars. It uses high-speed digital processing and advanced algorithms to counter modern threats.
The system is particularly effective when paired with Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars on advanced fighters, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcons, achieving Initial Operation Capability in November 2021.
So we are making stuff for an aircraft the world loves and that we kicked out… Clever and very cunning..
