US President Donald Trump has halted military aid to Ukraine, just days after a tense confrontation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vice President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office.

A White House official confirmed the pause, telling CBS News: “We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.”

The decision affects deliveries of ammunition, vehicles, and other military equipment, including shipments that were previously approved during Joe Biden’s presidency. This marks a significant shift in US policy and raises questions over future American support for Ukraine.

The sudden move follows Friday’s extraordinary clash between Trump and Zelenskyy, during which the US President reportedly berated the Ukrainian leader over Europe’s reliance on American military assistance. The public nature of the dispute has sparked condemnation from several quarters, while European leaders have stepped up their own commitments to Ukraine in response.

Europe’s Response

Following the fallout, European leaders have sought to reinforce their military and financial commitments to Kyiv. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted an emergency summit in London, reaffirming Britain’s commitment to troop deployments and financial assistance for Ukraine.

With Trump questioning long-term US involvement in European security, NATO allies are facing increased pressure to take on a greater share of Ukraine’s military burden.
