The UK Defence Journal weekly briefing for the week ending 5th May, 2019.

The topics covered include the news that Royal Navy seeking a large unmanned, autonomous submarine and that British Apache helicopters have departed for Estonia, where they will be training alongside NATO forces.

Why do we have to strip our apaches of parts for our new ones! Surely we should sell our apaches and just buy new ones, or keep some in reserve! But why destroy an Apache for another one! Airframes to old?

I believe with heavy use in Afghanistan and other places they are worn out.
Perfectly good parts can be used though.

I think one of the legacies of constant reduction in numbers by HMG with no let up in commitments is knackered kit well before its time as the same assets are used again and again with little or no reserves to speak of to spread the load.
