The Ministry of Defence is inviting bidders to tender to provide in-service support for three Batch 1 River Class offshore patrol vessels and five Batch 2 River Class offshore patrol vessels.
The Ministry of Defence Naval Ships Support (NSS) Team manages the in-service support of the Royal Navy Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
The NSS team have issued a tender to industry saying that it has “a potential future requirement to provide the in-service support for up to 3 River Class Batch 1 OPVs and up to 5 Batch 2 OPVs”.
“The support activities will include but are not limited to: planning for and execution of global repair and maintenance; engineering support, planned preventative and corrective maintenance, Operational Defect rectification; obsolescence management; stores management; logistic support; risk management; and post design services; to pre-determined availability requirements.”
The notice also points out that this ‘Prior Information Notice’ is not a commitment to award a contract.
“In issuing this PIN, the MOD is not committing to carry out any procurement in relation to the strategy stated in this PIN. The MOD reserves the right to alter the approach to this project prior to commencing any formal procurement. Any related future procurement activity will be subject to the DSPCR 2011.
Equally, non-participation in this Market Engagement will not be taken into account in any future procurement activities and will not preclude any organisation from submitting a tender in any future competition.”
The potential contract would begin on the 31st of October 2022.
With facilities overseas, presumably.

We don’t have any all encompassing contract with any military forces. We bid on contracts on a case by case basis or are asked by a Prime Contractors to provide Ship Repair services for them.
The model which maintains the Bay class is a very good example. The Prime Contractor sub con in Ship Repair dockyards all over the world to undertake alongside maintenance on the vessels. They provide the specialist ship specific knowledge, spares, work package for the local yard, OEMS to undertake the specialist work. The yard does the work on pipes, motors, steel, painting, electrics, habitability, testing inspections etc… All the basic stuff that a Ship Repair yard would do on any vessel.
