According to the U.S. Navy, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), part of Carrier Strike Group One (CSG-1), arrived at Port Klang, Malaysia, on 29 December 2024 for a scheduled port visit.
This visit marks the second U.S. Navy aircraft carrier visit to Malaysia in just over a month, following the USS Abraham Lincoln’s visit earlier in December.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1957, after Malaysia’s independence, the U.S. and Malaysia have maintained a strong relationship, which was elevated in 2014 to a Comprehensive Partnership.
Rear Admiral Michael Wosje, commander of Carrier Strike Group ONE, stated in the release: “Malaysia is a key partner for us in the Indo-Pacific. Our visit reinforces the importance of this partnership to the United States.” He also highlighted that the visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Navy, building on the long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship between the two nations.
The U.S. and Malaysia work closely on security issues such as counter-terrorism, maritime domain awareness, and regional stability. They regularly engage in joint training exercises and other cooperative activities.
As quoted in the press release, U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan remarked: “The back-to-back visits of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group and the USS Abraham Lincoln to Malaysia underscore the depth and strength of our security ties—an enduring cornerstone of the U.S.-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership.” He further added: “We continue to bolster our security partnership and remain committed to working with Malaysia to advance our shared vision of a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”
During their visit, the nearly 7,500 Sailors aboard CSG-1 will participate in cultural exchanges, community relations events, and various Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR)-sponsored tours aimed at enhancing cultural understanding and strengthening ties between the two nations.
Captain Matthew Thomas, commanding officer of the USS Carl Vinson, said: “On behalf of America’s Favorite Aircraft Carrier, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the people of Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur for welcoming the Sailors of USS Carl Vinson with such enthusiasm and warm hospitality.” He continued: “We are delighted to welcome Malaysian Navy and government officials aboard Vinson, and we are grateful for the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rich history and culture of Malaysia.”
The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group consists of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Sterett (DDG 104) and USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110), along with the embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) Two.
CVW-2 includes a variety of aircraft, such as the F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, EA-18G Growler, and others, providing a versatile and powerful force.
The USS Carl Vinson and its associated vessels are operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, the largest forward-deployed numbered fleet of the U.S. Navy.
I think it’s time for other nations to get groups into the areas. ix hope to rid the world of the cancer that is Iran Saddam was removed and they have done far worse than he ever did. we’d be doing the world a big favour in getting the mad mullahs out of the way.
At present Iran needs to helped along not hit hard. There is a reasonable chance the Iranian people could overthrow and remove the Islamic government if given the correct support and encouragement.
This is were the west is really weak and failing geopolitically, it should be playing hard ball political warfare with what are clearly enemies, sponsoring insurgents and rebel groups, information campaigns, flooding the place with weapons..anything and everything to destabilise the government and it would likely fall.
Invade and you essentially unite a divided country and give the religious dictatorship what it wants and needs.. an external enemy they even the moderates and normal population can see.. because at the moment the enemy most Iranians are concerned about is their own government.
The Iranian regime hit the last protests pretty hard. I just can’t see the Mullahs being toppled by anything other than outside intervention.
What’s any of this to do with a CVN visiting Malaysia? 🤔
It’s just an aircraft carrier ffs!
Hope the working girls in KL are ready for a thrusting arrival of the USA Navy!
