Ferguson Marine has announced the appointment of two new Non-Executive Directors to its Board, further strengthening the shipbuilder’s leadership team.
Duncan Anderson, a Chartered Marine Engineer with over 40 years’ experience in global ship operations and construction, and Martin Booth, a senior finance leader with significant public and private sector experience, officially joined the Board in March 2025. Their appointments come shortly before the arrival of new Chief Executive Officer Graeme Thomson, who takes up his post on 1 May.
Anderson brings a depth of shipbuilding knowledge to the team, having overseen the design, operation, and construction of more than 100 vessels in shipyards across Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. His career includes 12 years as CEO of Gulf Marine Services in Abu Dhabi, during which time he led the company from a $11 million profit in 2007 to $137 million in 2015, and took the business through a successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange.
“With the company’s strong heritage and potential growth in the future, I look forward to using the experience I’ve gained in shipbuilding to support the team in securing a sustainable future for Ferguson Marine and, in particular, showcasing its ability to deliver high quality work,” said Anderson.
Martin Booth, currently part-time Chief Finance Officer at Enable, will support Ferguson Marine’s audit and risk functions. His previous roles include Executive Director of Finance for Glasgow City Council—Scotland’s largest local authority—and senior positions at IBM, PwC, Isoplan, and HMP Kilmarnock.
“The shipyard has a strong foundation, and I can already see that a lot of improvements have been made to its governance practices. I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to contribute my oversight and guidance of financial strategies that will support Ferguson Marine’s long-term growth and success,” said Booth.
Andrew Miller, Chairman of the Board, welcomed the appointments:
“We are delighted to welcome Duncan Anderson and Martin Booth to the Board. Duncan’s extensive shipbuilding experience and proven track record in driving business growth, combined with Martin’s deep expertise in finance and governance, will be crucial as we work to achieve our strategic objectives. We are confident they will play a key role in helping Ferguson Marine realise its potential and help us successfully execute our new 10-year strategy, securing a sustainable and prosperous future for the yard.”
The announcement signals Ferguson Marine’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its leadership as it completes construction of the ferry MV Glen Rosa and looks to position itself at the heart of Scotland’s future shipbuilding landscape.
Am I being stupid here. If these two individuals are NED’s, how does this strengthen leadership?
